Malaysians usually think that the food in Singapore is not on par, but there are some gems in Singapore that is truly sought after. My favourite and top of my must-eat-food list has always been the Beach Rd Prawn Mee. It is simply awesome, but that could be because I am biased with the ingredient it has.
The Beach Rd Prawn Mee has one ingredient that makes it absolutely great for me. Pork. Ribs, tail or a mixture of both means that this prawn mee is the top of my Best Prawn Mee Award (not that I have one). The soup and chilli is also good but the pork makes the dish.
Oh and of course, the prawn as well. Not the lil shrimps we get here in KL.

Other than prawn mee, there is also Lobak or Loh Bak to be eaten here. The dish is basically a mixture of stuff you choose and then they deep fry. It is served with chilli sauce and sweet sauce.
The difference between the Singapore version and the Malaysia version is in the sweet sauce. While we have ours black and gooey, Singapore has them red and gooey. Wonder why?

singapore prawn mee … it’s not spicy and has peanuts in the soup right? Not sure if it’s authentic, but my dad used to bring us to this roadside stall at jalan silang … i think it operates only at night, not sure if it’s still there now. it’s been quite long since i’ve last went.
@meendee Not spicy? Yep but can put lots of chilli powder to make it spicy. Peanuts? hehe mine didn’t have any peanuts. Must be some other prawn mee in Singapore :D
oh yes, can put chilli powder. the one i’ve ever tried was in KL, jalan silang :)
Some Singapore food is pretty good actually. Not that bad as sounded by most of Malaysians.
I like Singapore’s buffet. much better quality and much cheaper (even after conversion) than Malaysia.
Eh you becoming singaporean already arr? :P
@Calvin Buffet? Hrmm must give it a go when I am down there again.
@Mark Not yet, slowly trying to :P
