Hannah Montana The Movie

Another Monday, another review. Two feel-good movies over the weekend and both have some Disney factor to it. The first, Hannah Montana, is probably one of the biggest money maker for Disney. So, you can bet that Hannah Montana have some big bucks behind it to ensure that fans will leave the cinema wanting more.

I don’t watch the TV series but I know enough of the background without getting lost in the movie. Then again, how hard can it be to figure it out? I was expecting to cringe most of the time but it surprised me. The movie was in fact quite enjoyable. Of course, it did feel like one MTV after another of Miley’s songs but at least they were catchy and easy to listen.

The Climb is probably one of the better songs from a movie I’ve heard recently and the star power such as Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift and Billy “Icky Breaky Heart” Cyrus was worked in well. I’ve seen reviews that said Hannah Montana was one for the fans but I think it can be more. I am not a fan but I still enjoyed it. But it was weird seeing ladies that are the same age as me squeal at the sight of Hannah Montana.

17 Again

Next up for the weekend was 17 Again. It is a New Line movie but it had the Disney influence through Zac Efron, the High School Musical star. I was expecting something like 13 Going On 30 but surprisingly the movie was a bit deeper than that.

The theme is simple, the hero is given the chance to relive his life. Not by going back into the past, but just being 17 again in present time. How no one wondered where the 30 yr old has gone to is something that you shouldn’t question. After all, it is a movie.

The movie is quite funny and the message is quite strong. That one shouldn’t regret the decisions that you make but rather make the most out of it. I felt the movie ended slightly hanging but oh well, I guess they ran out of time.

As the poster shows, Zac is indeed the main star of the movie but he couldn’t possibly ask for a better supporting cast, especially Thomas Lennon as Ned Gold. He provided quite a barrel of laughs. Zac is his usual pretty boy but he did show that he is capable of acting. Not that its Oscar winning stuff but definitely not one that will hurt his CV.

So, if you are looking for feel-good movies this week, then by all means, these two will certainly satisfy those needs.
