Drag Me to Hell

The weekend was bad. I only had time to catch two movies and I chose the wrong ones. The movies generating lots of attention were obviously Blood the Last Vampire and Drag Me to Hell. Both definitely dragged me to movieland hell.

First up, Drag Me to Hell by Sam Raimi is a Sam Raimi film. If you are a fan of his kind of horror, then you are in for a great ride. There is comedy in it, the usual scare using sudden movement and sounds and quite a cheesy plot. If you are not a fan, you are going to suffer.

I enjoyed Evil Dead but even I felt that this movie was a bit too Sam Raimi. And it goes to show that if you put a big name behind the project, even a B-grade feel movie will be given the A-grade treatment. Watch this if you missed Sam Raimi, give this a miss if you are looking for a good horror movie.

Blood the Last Vampire

Next up is the Korean girl acting as a Japanese killing blood suckers. Yes, they are vampires but oh well, the movie thought it was cooler to call them blood suckers. Or blood suckas in Gianna’s accent.

I think you would have read countless of review after Nuffnang hosted the special screening and well, yes it sucks. I am not usually stumped by movies but even the plot and direction of this movie got me going WTF at the end of the movie.

The funky looking demon that vampires transform into look like the worst piece of CG ever done. I guess they probably overspent and then decided to cut down on the CG budget. Even the director could have used a tip or two from Kill Bill when it comes using violence and blood.

Overall, a week to forget for movies.
