In case you are wondering where the photos went, well it is Monday and I am trying to revive the Monday Movie Review section that I usually post on, well Monday. The past weekend, I went Asian and watched two Chinese movies, something which is really out of the norm.
The first movie was by Jack Neo, and it is obviously in time for the now-passed-Ghost-Festival. As with all Jack Neo movies, there is a “moral of the story” and it is presented in a mixed genre style. This time around, he used comedy and horror. I have to say that he did it very well and there are definitely a lot more funny moments than scary moments.
And when it is scary, it is the usual scare tactics employed in Asian horror movies. Picture pale faces, long hair and white/red dresses. Separated into three different stories, he did well to give a lesson in life, although I couldn’t really understand the first. The last lesson was probably the best except for the corny CG scenes towards the end.

The second movie is simply titled Accident. Starring Louis Koo and Richie Jen (always thought it was Ren), it is one of those artsy Hong Kong movies which are submitted for international awards. The premise is simple. Louis Koo is a murderer or an architect of accidents as you would call it. He kills people but makes it look like an accident.
That alone was interesting enough especially when they showed how everything was made to look like an accident. Cool stuff. But it was too short. The rest of the movie went into some psycho-mental state thing which moved at a very slow pace. It didn’t help that you would have figured out the plot halfway into the slow psycho-mental part of the story.
It had the right ingredients but the execution left much to be desired. Now if only they chose to focus on the “accidents”. The ending was pretty anti-climatic too.
All in all, it was a good weekend although we didn’t really have that many choices. Hopefully this week will be better although I will be in Melaka for a wedding shoot. So, maybe I won’t have time to watch that many movies.
Hope you had a good weekend yourself and catch you tomorrow with more photos.
