Best Foie Gras - Cafe Cafe KL

Since I would be visiting some new restaurants this weekend, I thought it would be a good time to revisit some of the best stuff I have eaten so far. Not that many but certainly all of them were very memorable. The first is right now my favourite piece of dish from a “fine dining” (liberal use of this word) restaurant – foie gras.

The best that I’ve tasted so far is Cafe Cafe KL. It is just nicely done, not overcooked and simply melts in your mouth. Until I find one better, I dub thee DA BEST. (this line is going to get annoying because I will use it four more times).

Best Char Kway Teow - Somewhere in Penang

The best Char Kway Teow, although rather pricey, has got to be the Lorong Selamat CKT I tried. The aunty with a big hat also makes for an amusing sight. Be prepared to queue and wait for a seat though. I am pretty sure alot of Penangites will tell me there is better. But until I find one better, I dub thee DA BEST. Oh and I forgot to mention that big prawns with lap cheong = win.

Best Scone - David Brown's Restaurant and Tea Terraces

Continuing with Penang, I found the best scones ever! The only problem is sitting that slow ride up Penang Hill and when it is the weekend, you have got to squeeze with many, many people. And that is a bad thing. However, once you have made the trip up, remember to drop by David Brown’s restaurant and order the scone.

Served warm, it is soft, sweet to the right spot and the cream and jam that comes with it is delicious.

Best Piglet - El Cerdo

I always thought that Chinese made the best dishes with pork. After all, the countless char siews, siew yoks and porky dishes is a testimonial to our skills in making best use of pork. But the best roast piglet I have eaten so far is off Western influence at El Cerdo, located in the heart of KL. The Spanish cuisine of roasted piglet comes complete with plate-breaking tradition as well.

The crispy skin, the soft meat and the gravy. Perfect combination. So, until I find better, I dub thee DA BEST!

Best Caesar Salad - Buonesera

Well, maybe I am not exposed to that many Caesar Salads but when one of them has generous amount of bacon and egg, I am very inclined to say it is the best I ever had. And therefore, Buonesera wins this time around. Not to mention, it is actual pork bacon. So yes, extra brownie points for that.

So, this is the final time I will say so. Until I find better, I dub thee DA BEST!

And let’s hope the meals I have over the weekend can make this list longer.
