After visiting Kien Kee once with my boss, I knew I had to make a trip there again. After all, there aren’t that many great Sup Pedas around this area so finding one that is good enough is a great treat by itself.
So, last weekend, Sharon and I made the trip to Sri Kembangan and my GPS didn’t have that road listed! Turns out they missed out some alphabets on the namecard so the GPS was pointing me in the wrong direction. Luckily, I managed to ask for directions and got there in time to fill our hungry stomachs.
The Sup Pedas is basically pepper soup with ginger and lots of porky bits in it. The soup is spicy enough to tingle your senses but not burn your mouth. And there are enough porky bits to keep you satisfied as well. I am pretty sure they will be glad to add more for a charge as well if you think you need more pork goodness.

Well, “Fah Teu Chicken” was pretty much the name on the menu and I think it is five-spice chicken like the one they serve in Fong Lye. But I could be wrong, but they do taste similar. The exception I guess is that Kien Kee uses ayam kampung so its healthier (?) and also a lot yummier.
While they are known for their Sup Pedas, Sharon and I agreed that this was a better dish. The chicken was soft and I was surprised because I have always associated ayam kampung to hard, and lack of meat. But this was good, and well, still a bit lack of meat but enough la. Maybe next time I will order double portion.
It is not spicy, as the use of five spices is for the taste rather than to make it spicy hot.

And of course, we must have some vegetables so a simple “yau mak” was ordered. It was really fresh though and crunchy. Just how I like it.
