Jake's Fruit Punch

It was Sharon’s birthday and we decided to give Jake’s Charboiled Steaks at Starhill Gallery a try. We have heard quite a lot about this place, and I heard they served wagyu beef as well. I simply loved the wagyu cheeks at Cafe Cafe so we thought it was good to give this place a try.

As usual, I ordered my water and Sharon ordered a drink for herself. The fruit punch was her choice and it cost RM17, even more expensive than the soup! Luckily it didn’t taste weird and was quite nice and refreshing.

Jake's Clam Chowder

We were both fans of clam chowder and when we saw that it was on their menu, we had to order one to try. I believe the best clam chowder I had so far is in New York Deli in 1Utama and was expecting Jake’s to at least match or trump that version.

At RM11, the clam chowder is quite rich and contained quite a bit of clams. However, I couldn’t put my finger on what but I still prefered the one at New York Deli. But I would still recommend the clam chowder at Jake’s. Quite delicious..

Jake's Escargot

When it comes to Western food, the choice of appetisers that we order is pretty standard. Since they have the escargot, we would definitely go with the escargot. This was definitely worth the RM25 price tag.

It was filled with lots of garlicky sauce and it was absolutely delicous. Finger licking good I would say except that we don’t use our fingers for this. Fork licking good perhaps?

Jake's Black Angus Steak

Sharon wasn’t a fan of the wagyu beef and so she decided to go with the Black Angus. It was quite tender and well, I am not sure if I would pay RM99 again for it but it was definitely one of the better steaks I’ve tasted. Doesn’t beat the Wagyu Cheeks in Cafe Cafe though.

Jake's Wagyu Sirloin Steak

My dish finally came and while it is Sharon’s birthday, my dish was more expensive. Coming in with a price tag of RM204, Jake’s already set themselves a very high standard and I had high expectations for it. I was expecting the most tender of meat so imagine my surprise when… it tasted like the Black Angus!

It wasn’t as tender and melt-in-your-mouth as the Wagyu Cheeks in Cafe Cafe. Maybe I ordered the wrong part, maybe my expectations were too high but I was left severely disappointed.

Just so you know, for beef lovers, Jake’s is probably a good place. As you can see, they put very little emphasis on sauce and expect you to taste the beef for its beefy taste. I wouldn’t say that I will definitely return there although for steaks, they do seem to get it right.

Meanwhile, I will continue hunting for my melt-in-your-mouth wagyu since Cafe Cafe hasn’t been serving it for quite a while now. If you are interested in Jake’s, you can find them at:
