Princess and the Frog

While the rest of the world were busy watching blue people and getting impressed by the use of a lot of CG, I decided to catch Disney’s return to the classic form of animation. No fancy CG, no fancy 3D glasses – just simple plain ol’ drawing board and animation.

Not to mention, this also means that we get to listen to Disney tunes again, which I have missed because of the CG-animated cartoons have decided not to sing songs. So, it is a big welcome back to characters breaking into a tune. I missed that.

On all accounts, Princess and the Frog is not the same as the bedtime story we all heard. Its quite a change and I have to say its been modernised. And truth be told, I like this new version better. Yes, there is the whole moral-behind-the-story element, but thats good for kids, and not too bad for adults as well. We all could use with a little lesson in life.

The dialogue is great and the characters are lovable, which is very important for a cartoon. In fact, they were so lovable that immediately after the movie, I saw kids talking about which characters they like best. And when you have them sitting quiet for the movie, and then go out excited, you know Disney created another winner.

While it is a much welcomed return to the old school format, the tunes here didn’t seem so impressive. They are good songs though, but I couldn’t really remember any of them after the movie. Unlike the older movies like Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Aladdin and others, songs here weren’t that memorable and that is surprising considering Randy Newman was on board.

But if you don’t feel like catching the Blue fever, then this is a worthy watch. After all, it is a Disney cartoon, they seldom get it wrong.

I think i should stop kissing those frogs i macro….it’s bad enough that they don’t turn into princess. Turning myself into a frog would be unimaginable.
