Darksider

I know, I always thought I got lots to say about football but lets face it, I have more time gaming than football so let’s change this weekly column to a gaming column. 6 days into the new year and we are already seeing a few new releases. One of them is Darksider, with Virgil Games making their debut.

With some kind of apocalypse story behind it, people will definitely pick up the game for the style alone. Too bad, based on reviews so far, style is probably the only thing going for it so far. So if you like big swords, big horse, big muscles and lots of funky colours (which is a surprise), then go ahead and pick up a copy.

Bayonetta

And then we have pretty much the most over-the-top game you will see in ages. Directed by the creator of DMC and Viewtiful Joe, you have a long-legged heroine who kills angels in the most brutal of styles. If you are a fan of DMC, then Bayonetta is a must-buy this month.

I tried the demo and it is a whole lot of fun. It is not as punishing as Ninja Gaiden (at least Normal is normal) and it was more fun than DMC4. Maybe something about a lady who uses her long hair to summon weapons and stuff is more interesting than a guy wielding guns and swords. Oh, did I mention she can attach weapons to her boots as well? If you are still unsure, download the demo from XBOX Live and give it a go yourself.

Dark Void

A character thats designed like the Rocketeer? That brings back memories but other than seeing a video earlier about this dude flying around and fighting big machines, I am absolutely clueless about this game. Nevertheless, thats what demos are for and you can download it from Marketplace later.

But it was quite talked about, so Dark Void might just be the surprise purchase of the month.

Divinity II

Yet another game in the list of games you can play this month but Divinity II trailer didn’t excite me, and the screenshot above didn’t either. Looks like a typical Western RPG with dragons. No demo out either so its up to you to take the risk. I probably wouldn’t since I got Dragon Age yet to be played. Might as well go with a Bioware title, at least their credentials are there.

Then again, this is a sequel so there might be fans out there. If you are one, good for you.

Army of Two the 40th Day

If you like a major dose of general bromance, then you probably can’t wait any longer for Army of Two the 40th Day to appear in stores. I wasn’t a big fan of the first game as it felt too much like a Gears of War without the solid gameplay behind it. Didn’t have a chance with Coop though so that might have been fun.

I will probably look at picking this up 2nd hand though.

Mass Effect 2

This is the biggie of the month. The highly anticipated sequel to Bioware’s scifi RPG. On all accounts, Mass Effect 2 looks better and they also got rid of the annoying elevator rides. I hope they improve on the combat though because that was a bit of a weak point in the first game.

The sarcastic lines better remain though because that was the fun part of the first one. Look out for it dominate sales chart at the end of the month.

So, there you have it, the games you can spend hour hard-earned cash on this month.
