When I miss a movie in the cinema, it might take me a long time before I actually watch it on any other format. Yesterday, I finally had time to watch Taking of Pelham 123 starring John Travolta and Denzel Washington. Therefore, this review is pretty much half a year late, but hey, its still a movie right?

I am a fan of these kind of movies, slightly action with a whole lot of dialogue and drama. It is no surprise then that I enjoyed Taking of Pelham 123 although I do have some gripes with the movie. While the dialogue and acting were pretty much up there, I find that vulgar words are quite overrated in movies. Its fine if you have some to add flavour but when its in every sentence, I tend to find it annoying.

Some of the characters were also introduced in the movie but was never really developed. So much so that you want to ask why did they even bother in the first place? For example, Garber obviously has a problem with his boss but it never really had any real impact on the movie.

Another problem I had with the movie was that it went downhill plot-wise when the true reason behind the “kidnapping” happened. It went into a predictable movie. Would have been great too if Ryder made it all the way with his scheme, but of course, apparently bad guys winning is not good for movies because they will be seen as promoting the evils.

Other than the slight annoyances above, the movie is good enough to be watched. John and Denzel carried their roles well and theres enough drama to keep you hooked on until at least 3/4 of the movie. Oh, and they need to learn how Malaysian police block off roads, because what they did in the movie was just lame.
