Last year when Borderlands was released, I didn’t give it any thought. After all, I had to play Assassin’s Creed 2 and somehow, it didn’t really scream out at me in my built-in games radar. I must say that the thought of another FPS also didn’t appeal to me. After all, I had COD6 and Halo: ODST to fill up the genre.
Fast forward to 2010, and my friend Yoroi kept talking about the new downloadable content, Zombie Island of Dr Ned. That immediately rang some bells in my head. Zombies? Thats never a bad thing. Mindless zombies to kill = great fun. That’s why I play Left 4 Dead and watch Zombieland.

So, last week I decided to purchase the game, renew the XBOX Live account and purchase MS Live points for the DLC. And while I haven’t completed the game, and I am still Level 21 or something (after a huge power levelling session by Yoroi), I can say that Borderlands is a fine game indeed.
With all the hype on the other titles, 2k Games could have possibly been the underrated performer of last year. The cell-shaded graphics are very nice, and I have always liked cell-shaded animation in games. There are so many weapons that I can’t even count them although they are pretty much a variation of the same gun. So a shotgun is a shotgun except you have 10,000 other stats to go with it.

Its an RPG of sorts but you can’t customised how your character look, you can change colours of armour and shirt though. There are four classes and you can customise the skill tree of your classes, depending on how you assign the skill points. If you can hit level 100 in the game, then you can probably fill up everything.
I am pretty sure soon I will unlock some fast travel thing, but at the moment, running is pretty annoying. And I ran a lot. Killed a lot while running, but I would appreciate less running. Thankfully the map system is quite awesome so I don’t get lost in the game. If it wasn’t for the map, I think I would have given up a long time ago.
All in all, Borderlands is a game where you take killing stuff seriously. And by serious, I mean finding more ways than one to kill something. Which usually involves using different guns. I am glad I finally picked up the game, and I think I can see this title staying in my library for quite a while more.
