The last time I was there at Din Tai Fung, it was for lunch and it was a treat by a friend so I didn’t dare order too much. This time around, no such worries so went all out. Sharon and I started with appetisers and we went with an order of her favourite dish – the century egg with ginger.

We also ordered the jelly fish, a cold dish that you would find normally on the first course of a Chinese wedding dinner. With the appetisers out of the way, it was time to take a look at the more serious food. The main courses!

I ordered a special La Mian on the menu and it was plain la mian served with some meaty combo with a bit of tofu as well. It was quite nice and since we ordered a number of other dishes, we thought something simple with the noodles would do us good.

A trip to Din Tai Fung is not complete if an order of the xiao long bao is not made. So I definitely ordered one basket for the two of us. I decided to try the crabmeat filling version but frankly speaking, not much difference from the normal one. I shall stick to the normal one next time and save myself some dough.

Vegetables is good for us, therefore I ordered a plate of my favourite at these Chinese restaurants – the simple but ultimately delicious fried long beans. I think I shall make this my “must order dish” whenever I go to a Taiwanese restaurant.

We also decided to end our dinner with a simple dessert, the yam paste with gingko nuts. I think they are called gingko nuts. Not to sweet, just nice and the gingko wasn’t bitter. It was all good.
We left the restaurant, wallets lighter, stomach filled and very happy indeed.
