I think from the title of the post, you pretty much know which movie I was going to talk about. Two movies last week and both were equally good in their own rights. I don’t know how hyped Inception was before it was released but I certainly knew nothing much about it. All I knew was that Leo Di Caprio was in it, and that it was directed by Chris Nolan.
If I had a choice in giving out movie awards, Inception would bag them all at the next Oscars.
The movie is about a bunch of people getting in your head to steal ideas, and their last job is to implant an idea. That’s the basic of it. Think of Ocean’s Eleven (Twelve, Thirteen etc), mix it up with some mind games (literally!) and you get Inception.
Excellent script, excellent cast and excellent effects contribute to the final product – an awesome movie. If there was one thing I had to pick on, it was probably some of the slower moments. It felt a bit long drawn but it didn’t distract too much from what was going on.
Inception is probably not going to be a movie for everyone. If you thought Avatar was thought provoking (or too thought provoking), then stay away. This movie will probably whoosh past your head.

Well, after Inception, I thought I would go for a different sort of fun. One that won’t mess with my mind. Luckily Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer had something on the screen so that was the perfect fit. Wasn’t too sure about Nicholas Cage but he did well in Bad Ass, so was hoping this was not another Bangkok Dangerous.
Luckily it wasn’t. Nicholas Cage actually carried out his role rather well and Jay Baruchel is fast turning out to be a favourite actor of mine for these kind of quirky, geeky, geek-turn-to-hero kinda roles. This is definitely a popcorn movie. No brains required, just sit down and enjoy the ride.
It was also based on a book, but I haven’t read it so my expectations weren’t high. But it was an enjoyable movie, funny and the plot moved so fast that you just kinda ignore the details. Of course, I’ve never tried to question too many things when it comes to movies like these.
Definitely one to take your kids too. They can ooh and ahh at the special effects. There you have it, a pretty enjoyable movie week for me.

After watching Avatar, I read news report about depressions and that people actually jump off the roof because of that, I am wondering if Inceptions would give us that impact…scary.. but yes this is definitely something different.
@cheasin If those people did that, they probably shd have done that years ago when they watched Pocahontas :P
If there was ONE movie that can make ppl jump off bridges, Inception would be it.
Inception was effing BRILLIANT! I watched twice in the cinema already :D
And yes, if there is any movie that can make people jump off bridges, Inception is definitely going to be it.
@Vincent haha it was brilliant! No one has credited any suicides to Inception yet though :P
Nice review on Inception. Went to see it last week and I absolutely loved it! You’re right it should get at least a nomination for best movie :)
MY LATEST ENTRY: Waiting on ice
PS: My review’s somewhere in there too ..hehe
@Hidayah :) Clicked.
Firstly, love your blog. So glad I happened upon through the photodiarist. Secondly, I knew about leo, but did not know that Chris Nolan of Batman fame (right?) was part of this. No wonder it was awesome. Hub and I are going this weekend. The ads have been so engaging for this flick that I was afraid they were showing only the best parts.
@nadine2point0 Thank you! Glad you enjoyed reading it. Yep, he is of The Dark Knight fame, enjoy the show with your husband, I guarantee you it will be awesome :)
The first thing that struck me about Inception is about how straight forward it actually is. It’s just how the end makes u wanna dig a little deeper. All because of a spinnning top which is wobbly?? Hehhe well I was quite disappointed that it wasn’t as mind boggling as everyone claimed it to be. Nevertheless, a great watch and the script sure beats the poor one liners of the Last Airbender..
@karheng Well, it certainly wasn’t a confusing movie. And I think it was the notion that ideas could be planted, or rather seeded and then letting it grow. The whole movie was a Hollywood-fied version of what could actually be happening through subliminal messages and all.
So, it definitely gave some food for thought.
Heheh yeah….i guess that’s the way it strikes the iron rod really hot, simple, yet ‘confusing’ and mind provoking. To me, the funny thing about this show is that it didn’t have that much marketing before it, just a trailer or two, and it’s one of those which had viral after effects where almost everyone was talking about it…
BTW, i heard Avatar extended is going to be shown soon…not sure if that’s a rumor…if it is’, i’m going 3d with that!
@Kar Heng Yeah, saw the extended version posters at GSC. I am not going to waste my life watching that movie again! :P
